MEET THE SIMON INSURANCE TEAM
The ten agents that comprise the Simon Insurance team have a wealth of knowledge pertaining
to crop insurance, hail insurance, pasture rangeland forage (PRF), forage production, and
livestock protection. The agents of Simon Insurance are committed to providing unmatched
crop insurance service and coverage you value.
Steve Simon
Steve is the founder and owner of Simon
Insurance which he started in 1998. He is
also the auctioneer of the business. Steve
grew up in Hoven, SD and after
graduating from SDSU with an
Agriculture Education degree in 1983, he
moved to Groton, SD. He worked at
Norwest Bank for 15 years where he was
a banker and branch manager before
starting his own business. He currently
lives in Groton, SD, has been married to
Peggy for 40 years, and has three children
Stephen, Maggie, and Shane. He is the
ringleader of Simon Insurance and other
family operations consisting of farming,
ranching, excavating, and silage
chopping. He enjoys going on hunting
and fishing excursions from time to time!
Maggie Simon-Wegleitner
Maggie grew up on her family farm north
of Groton, SD and started working at
Simon Insurance as a high schooler
beginning in 2014. Being surrounded by
agriculture and with plans to follow in
her dad’s footsteps, she went to SDSU to
study Agricultural Business with minors
in Agricultural Marketing and Accounting.
She graduated May of 2020 and obtained
her crop insurance license in September
of 2020. She and her husband Steven got
married in September of 2022 and live in
Groton. She assists with daily operations
at Simon Insurance and helps her parents
Steve and Peggy, and brothers Stephen
and Shane on the farm. During the
summer weekends, you can find her on
the boat at Pickerel Lake!
Myndi Kampa
After many years working with Medicaid
& Health Insurance, Myndi changed
directions towards Crop Insurance. She
joined Simon Insurance in 2012, earning
her license in 2014. Born & raised in the
Groton area, agriculture has always been
part of her life. She’s been married to her
high school sweetheart Scott for 20 years,
and they have two boys Tristan & Jaeger.
They currently live on a farm just outside
of Groton. In her spare time, she enjoys
gardening, shooting trap with her family,
and the occasional Busch Light!
David Christenson
David enjoys the outdoors, especially the
farming and ranching life. He has been an
agent for Simon Insurance since 2006. He
has spent his life in agriculture, starting
with working on his family farm near
Claremont, SD in 1977. He worked there
for 17 years and continues to enjoy
driving truck to help with harvest each
year. In 1995, he began selling equipment
for Marshall County Equipment. He was
also involved in a cow/calf venture for
many years and has a deep
understanding of all sides of the
agriculture business. When he isn’t
working, David enjoys spending time
with his family. He and his wife, Gretchen,
have two children. Zach lives in
Cleveland, Ohio with his wife and son.
Margo and her husband live in Denver,
Colorado.
Tim Hofer
Tim lives in Webster, SD and has two
adult children. He was raised on a farm
by Salem, SD, now a third generation
family farm that his brother still operates.
Tim graduated from Northern State
University with a business degree and
has been employed in agricultural
banking since college graduation. He
obtained his crop insurance license in
1994 and has been in the crop insurance
business since. In 2010, Tim began selling
crop insurance for Simon Insurance. His
past community activities include serving
on church council and the Lions Club.
The outdoor activities Tim enjoys include
hunting, fishing, and trap shooting.
Dwight Wookey
Dwight grew up North of Crocker, SD on
the farm, working for his parents Herald
and Merna. He graduated from Northern
State University with a business finance
degree in 1987. From 1993-2003 he
managed the Britton Federal Credit
Union and got his insurance license for
Property & Casualty and began selling for
Farmers Insurance Group. He obtained
his crop insurance license in 2008 and
joined Simon Insurance. Dwight is
married to Fran, and they have 3 grown
children. Along with currently being a
crop insurance agent, Dwight farms in
Day and Brown counties and lives in
Britton, SD.
Chris Jark
Chris grew up in Stratford, SD. He
attended South Dakota State University
and graduated in 2014 with a Business
Economics degree. He began working at
Simon Insurance in 2014, obtaining his
crop insurance license in 2016. Chris
farms with his brother Collin in Crandall,
SD as well as helps his dad on the family
farm in Stratford. In his free time, you’ll
find him on the golf course or somewhere
with a fishing rod in hand!
Lexx Steen
Lexx grew up in a small town outside of
Brookings, SD and graduated from Lake
Area Technical Institute with a business
degree in Marketing and Management.
After graduation, she moved to Groton
with her husband Jordan and they now
live in Bath with their dog Chevy. Lexx
has been an agent with Simon Insurance
since 2017 and was no stranger to the
farming world as her husband is an
agronomist and she was a grains
accountant at Poet Biorefining for 3 years
prior to becoming a Crop Insurance
Agent. When Lexx isn’t at the office, you
can find her either in the garage or at the
drag strip racing her twin turbo Pontiac
G8 GT.
Ron Wegleitner
Ron has been farming in the Claremont,
SD area for the last 43 years. He has also
been a seed salesman for Pioneer Hi-
Bred for 37 years. Ron got into the crop
insurance business around 30 years ago
and joined Simon Insurance in 2017. Ron
enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare
time. He also enjoys an occasional round
of golf!
Dick Randall
Dick was born and raised in Ellendale,
ND. He married his wife Doreen in 1977.
They moved to Wahpeton, ND to attend
NDSCS and Dick graduated with a degree
in Auto Mechanics. After a short move to
Wisconsin, Dick and Doreen lived in the
Warner area for the next 25 years. Dick
obtained his insurance license in 1993
and in 2001 joined Simon Insurance. In
2014, Dick bought his dream, a farm.
Today, Dick and Doreen live in the Java,
SD area and along with insurance sales,
raise small grains and row crops, and run
a 180 head cow/calf operation. Dick and
Doreen are the parents of Scott and
Clayton and the proud grandparents of 5
grandchildren.
